BC's Education Plan
Inquiry plays an important role in the new BC's Education Plan, in particular in the science and social studies curriculum. In Social Studies, students will be focusing on big open-ended questions so that they can make informed decisions. The Science curriculum supports an inquiry-based approach by organizing curricular competencies through the headings of the inquiry process (questioning and predicting, planning and conducting, processing and analyzing data and informaton, evaluating, communicating).

"BC’s Education Plan is based on a simple vision: Capable young people thriving in a rapidly changing world.
To achieve this, we need an education system that better engages students in their own learning and that fosters the skills and competencies they will need to succeed. The focus for this transformation is the movement to increasingly personalized learning, which is enabled and supported by quality teaching and learning, flexibility and choice, and high standards". "While a solid knowledge base in the basic skills will be maintained, to better prepare students for the future there will be more emphasis on key competencies like self-reliance, critical thinking, inquiry, creativity, problem solving, innovation, teamwork and collaboration, cross-cultural understanding, and technological literacy. We can also connect students more directly with the world outside of school, with increased focus on learning these skills across topic areas." (taken from BC's Education Plan document)
